NEW DIMENSIONS IN WRITING:
The Jarvis Method Creative Writing Course
that Will Teach You How to
"WRITE LIKE THE DICKENS...CHARLES DICKENS, THAT IS"

The New Dimensions In Writing Creative Writing Course gives you the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn writing from the creator of StoryCraft's Jarvis Method, John Jarvis, who gives his individualized guidance in this 16-week, email-based course that utilizes his own radio-drama production of the Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol." And the great grandson of Charles Dickens, Claude Dickens, narrates the unique dramatic production that accompanies the course.

FEATURES
The Course, which costs just $60, starts Monday, July 7th, 2008, and runs for 16 weeks. (No software is required.) Each week, you'll work, step-by-step, towards constructing a complete outline of your work, which Mr. Jarvis will carefully look over and offer you his input. You'll be utilizing not only priceless guidance from Mr. Jarvis -- whose Jarvis Method of fiction writing has become internationally popular in the StoryCraft line of story-development software -- but also the splendid adaptation of "A Christmas Carol," narrated by Dickens's own great grandson and directed by Mr. Jarvis himself, who is one of the pioneers in radio-drama production in the Southeast.

METHODS
Although many creative-writing classes have used Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol as their textbook (because of its brilliant use of character and structure), Mr. Jarvis, the instructor of the New Dimensions in Writing "Write Like the Dickens" course, has actually created a complete radio drama of the classic and acquired Dickens's great grandson to narrate the work, and then created a syllabus that revolves around this classic. Mr. Jarvis has spent years working with the mythological character and structure system of story construction and adapting it to his highly popular method of writing fiction, novels, and screenplays. He will teach you the lesson for each week via essay, then he will review your answers to assigned questions. Three elements of fiction -- Category, Hero's Journey Structure, and Character Development according to the concepts of Lajos Egri, Chris Vogler, and Josephy Campbell are all brought together in this unique, highly effective course, based on Mr. Jarvis's long-running New Dimensions in Writing courses.

TEXT
The text for this course is actually a CD (comes with the course). Mr. Jarvis has adapted "A Christmas Carol" and recorded his own production of it onto a CD just for this class. It is a full radio drama with sound effects, bridge music, multiple characters...the works -- just like listening to a classic radio drama of the '50s. And the actors! Among them: Claude Dickens, great grandson of the author, as the narrator, and Dean Burgess, founder of the Little Theatre of Norfolk, as Scrooge.

THE INSTRUCTOR
Your instructor will be John Jarvis, the inventor of the well-known approach to writing fiction, which has come to be called "The Jarvis Method." Before going to Hollywood, Mr. Jarvis, who holds a Master's in Fine Arts and is an expert in Jungian philosophy and Wagnerian opera as well as classical and mythological fiction, was for nearly 30 years production manager for Public TV in Hampton Roads (where he first met Claude Dickens, the renowned author's great grandson, then with the Royal Navy stationed at Norfolk), producing numerous radio dramas in the southeastern region. In addition, in Hollywood he has, among other things, freelanced for Ralph Edwards-Stu Billett, producers of "The Family Medical Center" and "The People's Court." Over the years, professor Jarvis has introduced literally thousands of students to his Method and created a legion of talented and successful followers. He is also past structure columnist for Screenwrite NOW!, the predecessor of Scr(i)pt Magazine. Click here if you'd like to known more about the professor.
